A longtime Albany native and graduate of the City School District of Albany, Shaniqua Jackson is a dedicated advocate for literacy and education. Jackson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Public Administration.
With extensive experience in human services, mental health, and public service, she brings over two decades of seasoned leadership to her current role as the City Clerk of Albany. Throughout her career, Shaniqua has strived to promote transparency, accessibility, and resources to all members of our community. Shaniqua is a lifelong learner and a firm believer in the transformative power of public libraries.

Shaniqua Jackson is seeking a position on the Albany Public Library Board to help strengthen the library system for all residents of Albany. Jackson hopes to support and foster a library system that continues being innovative, inclusive, and responsive to the evolving needs of the community. She is a strong advocate for policies that expand library funding, support literacy programs, and bridge the digital divide—ensuring every resident has equitable access to the resources they need to succeed.

Throughout her career, Shaniqua Jackson has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and leadership. Jackson previously served as a Community School Site Coordinator for the City School District of Albany, where she developed and implemented programs that directly addressed the pressing needs of students and their families. Her accomplishments include launching mentoring initiatives, establishing a school-based food pantry, and cultivating vital community partnerships. These experiences highlight her capacity to assess community needs, project manage, and coalition build.
In her current role as City Clerk and Registrar for the City of Albany, she oversees critical municipal operations–ensuring transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in the management of public records and government functions. This position has equipped her with the transferable skills to navigate complex policies, manage budgets, and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. With her proven expertise in strategic planning, budget oversight, and public engagement, Shaniqua Jackson is eager to contribute to the Albany Public Library’s continued growth and success.

This year, the Albany Public Library Trustee election will occur on May 20th. Voters will select two trustees who will carry full five-year terms for the Albany Public Library Board.
